This week, we will be hosting Grandparents on Friday for It's a Grand Day! Over the course of this week, we will be learning more about Veteran's Day, and on Friday, we will be sharing with our grandparents about the things we've learned when they visit.
Recently in Social Studies, we finished reading Blood on the River and learning about the specifics of life in Jamestown and started studying some of the European Colonies that grew on this land. Below you will see some of the tableaux work we did after researching these colonies. Each of the groups below created a tableaux or a frozen scene to act out and signify the important aspects of the New Spain and New France colonial lands in North America. Much of the work we do with tableaux involves students imagining, expanding, and creating life during a given historical time period. Acting out and developing these scenes on their own supports our students in understanding through embodiment in ways that paper, pencils, and even video restrict. Some of the characteristics that you'll see represented here are religious influence of colonizers, treatment of Native American groups, the influence of trade, and cooperation during these times.

Below you'll see some of the work we have been doing recently on non-fiction reading and writing. We will be starting some research in astronomy over the next two weeks. I can't wait to share more about this article study that we are doing as readers and writers to feature what we are coming to know about our galaxy and even the greater universe!
